what we do

As medication experts we’re the most accessible health care professional you have to help you better understand your medication. When should I take it? How should I take it? Should I take it with food or on an empty stomach? Does it need to be kept in a refrigerator? Can I take it with other medications?

If you haven’t been told by your physician or nurse – you should be asking us.

We look for drug interactions – we process your prescriptions through your insurance – we have technicians count and double check along with state of the art equipment the medications you are getting to make sure you get the right quantity. We speak to your doctor – receive your prescriptions through fax and electronic Data systems. We sometimes look for possible alternatives to the medication you were prescribed because it may not be covered on your insurance or you may be allergic to it or you may not be able to swallow it or it may taste bad or it may just be too expensive.

Sometimes it happens – You may ask “Why does it take so long to get my prescription filled?” Besides the reasons above in the previous paragraph – a lot of time we’re having to deal with your insurance company – your co pay changed – the price went up – you need a “Prior Authorization” from your insurance company – your medication was covered last month but not his month. These are all issues that come up several times a day on a daily basis.

We treat you as an individual – each one of you is different – each one of us is different – but our goal is the same – to make you a happy satisfied customer.

Meet Our Team

Steven Pressman R.Ph.,
President, CEO

Steve grew up in Brooklyn New York in a housing project. His interest in pharmacy began in his high school years when he was deciding what business he can go into. He chose pharmacy because of all the different opportunities that were available to him after he graduated. But in pharmacy school, they taught him that pharmacy is more about patient care – about helping people – about being the professional who helps people understand their medications and removes their fear and confusion about taking that medication.

So after he graduated in 1981 – he packed his bags during an April snowstorm and headed for sunnier skies – He wound up in Pembroke Pines and never looked back.

Steve moved down with his car – a stereo – about $600.00 and a whole lot of school debt. The rest speaks for itself – he opened the first of 4 Pill Box Pharmacies & Medical Supply in 1985. Steve has been and is still very involved in the community.

Some of his personal accomplishments include:

  • Rotarian of the Year

  • Pharmacist of the Year

  • Past President of the Broward County Pharmacy Association

  • Police Athletic League (PAL) Man of the Year
  • Pinnacle Award Winner from the Chamber of Commerce
  • Presented Key to the City from the Mayor of Pembroke Pines
  • Having two playgrounds named after his stores.

Pill Box Story

The First Pill Box in Pembroke Pines

April 30, 1985 | Original Store

It was a snowy April day in 1982 when Steve Pressman left New York – with a pharmacy degree in hand – for sunnier skies in South Florida. It wasn’t long before Pressman opened the first Pill Box in Pembroke Pines on April 30, 1985, his 27th birthday. Offering the ultimate customer service and a wide selection of goods as well as making his store a fun place just to visit was Pressman’s goal. Now with four stores Pressman and his partners Wayne Linder, at Pill Box in Weston, Barbara Sammarco, at Pill Box Pines West, and Tom Bohan, at Pill Box Davie, have held onto the idea of precision pharmacy services coupled with outstanding customer service.

Unlike the big chains, Pill Box is independent and is able to focus on what matters most to its customers. This is a place where friendly is the norm and a person, not a machine, always answers the phone. At the same time, Pill Box has a state-of-the-art compounding laboratory, offering customers access to hard to find medications.

Pressman’s original Pill Box is a mix of old time service offered by highly trained pharmacists in a setting that is difficult to comprehend without a visit.  Murals adorn the walls, and there are fish tanks and talking pirates, a pharmacy museum with a life like dummy, celebrity pictures and trains that circle the ceiling over a selection of goods more than 200,000 strong. So if you’re looking for something, chances are Pill Box has it, and if they don’t, they will get it or find it for you. The compounding staff is trained by Professional Compounding Centers of America, an organization that sets standards for compounding pharmacies. “Pill Box offers flavoring of medications so kids, adults and your pets will like them better,” says Pressman. It also has an Ostomy & Mastectomy Department and sleep apnea equipment as well as medical equipment rental, sales and repairs, including breast pumps and lift chairs.

“Most people who undergo surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, abdominal surgery, facial surgery and more find that sleeping in a lift chair is much more comfortable than sleeping in a bed,” said Pressman. One of Pill Box’s secret weapons is Pressman’s wife, Angela, who holds a doctorate in pharmacy degree and offers anti-aging counseling as well as hormonal balance counseling. She also works with physicians, teaching them how to prescribe hormone-related products, helping men and women with such issues as low libido, testosterone levels, vaginal dryness and menopause. The stores carry many wellness products such as specialty vitamins and supplements for weight loss, cleansing, greater energy and insomnia. The bottom line, says Steve Pressman, is that Pill Box is about top notch service provided by highly skilled pharmacists and staff in a friendly environment. But beyond that, Pill Box, Pressman and his partners and dedicated staff have a decade’s long commitment to giving back to the community through charitable donations and service. Steve Pressman has a long list of accomplishments and awards and was most recently named Police Athletic League Man of the Year and was also awarded the Pinnacle Award from the Miramar Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce and most recently – received Key to the City from Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis.
